Mrs. Sharon Lewis to Join the Office Staff, Pastor Tina Carriger to Join Pastoral Staff and Mrs. Angenetta Hill to Return to Classroom
Recently on our website, we shared the fact that six of our Pastors, Dr. Craig Newborn, South Central Conference Spirit of Prophecy Coordinator/Sabbath Director, Elder I. Roy Rugless, Prayer Ministries/Men’s Ministries Coordinator, Elder Ronssard Broussard, Pastor, Paducah/Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Elder Antoine Maycock, Pastor, Florence/Courtland, Elder Roy L. Patterson, Pastor, South Nashville and Sargent Simms, Pastor, Montgomery Maranatha/Hurtsboro, Alabama will be retiring this year. Elders Rugless and Simms will be transitioning to part-time while Dr. Newborn, Elders Broussard, Maycock and Patterson will retire as of August 1.
Additionally, Elder Chester Readus, Pastor, Moss Point/Beaumont, Mississippi is leaving to transition into the chaplaincy. Together, these men have given approximately 250 years of service to God’s church, the vast majority of it in the South Central Conference.
We are greatly appreciative of their service and ministry. After Camp Meeting, a special feature on them will appear on our website.
For now, we wish to formally announce the latest personnel changes in our conference. Former Associate Superintendent of Education, Mrs. Angenetta Hill, expressed a desire to return to classroom instruction. Beginning this fall, she will be teaching at Oakwood Academy, where she served with distinction as a teacher prior to coming to the conference office seven years ago.
We have appreciated Mrs. Hill’s service in the Office of Education and wish her well as she returns to her first love-classroom instruction.
The new Associate Superintendent of Education is Mrs. Sharon Lewis, the Principal of Oakwood Academy. Mrs. Lewis comes to our office with a wealth of experience in Seventh-day Adventist Education. For nearly forty years she has served this church as an educator. She has served as both a teacher and a principal in Allegheny East, Allegheny West and the Ohio Conference, prior to coming to Oakwood Academy in 2009.
The Lord has blessed her leadership at Oakwood Academy. The enrollment has increased and she helped to oversee the long-awaited expansion of our school there.
She is married to Elder James Lewis, who serves as the Director of Regional Ministries, the Associate Stewardship Director of our conference, and the Associate Pastor of the Huntsville Mount Calvary SDA Church.
We welcome her to our office and ask for your prayers as Oakwood Academy seeks a leader to fill her shoes.
Lastly, the Conference Executive Committee extended an invitation to Pastor Tina Carriger, to join our Pastoral Staff as our Seminary Intern. She will begin pursuing her Master of Divinity studies at Andrews Theological Seminary in January, 2015.
It is the general practice of this conference to send young theology students that we hire out of an undergraduate program to Andrews for their Masters Degree prior to assigning them to a pastorate. Pastor Carriger is the first female student to be sent by South Central to the seminary in the history of our conference.
Pastor Carriger is a native of Lincoln, Nebraska and a 2014 graduate of Southern Adventist University. She serves as the Worship Coordinator for the Chattanooga Orchard Park SDA Church. She and her husband, Lyndon, are the parents of two young children, a boy and a girl. We welcome them to South Central.
