First SDA Church Celebrates 80 Years of Existence
During Homecoming Weekend 2017
Huntsville, AL – First SDA Church is celebrating 80 years of existence in Huntsville, Alabama with a Homecoming weekend October 27 – 28. The theme for the occasion is “80 Years…Still Standing on God’s Promises”.
Homecoming 2017 weekend events are open to the public and begin with “Hymns at Sunset” Friday evening, October 27 at 6:30 p.m. The sing-along will include favorite hymns and music from years gone by; under the direction of Cleveland “Murphy” Wilson. The guest speaker is Pastor Nelson Stokes of Nashville, TN. Following “Hymns at Sunset” will be a Meet and Greet in the fellowship hall for existing members, returning members, former members and guest.
Sabbath morning, October 28, First Church resumes the celebration with a mini concert at 9:00 a.m. The concert will feature the music of Eleanor Wright. Following the concert will be an old fashion Sabbath School program featuring a rousing song service and a combined interactive Lesson Study. To close the Sabbath School Service, First Church welcomes former pastors, E.E. Rogers, Sherman Cox, Hector Mouzon, S.J. Jackson, Harold Kibble and Benjamin Jones on a panel facilitated by Senior Pastor, Debleaire Snell. Pastor Snell will also be the speaker for the Divine Worship service at 11:30 a.m.
Homecoming 2017 Weekend will culminate Saturday night with a banquet at the Jackson Center, 6001 Moquin Dr. NW, Huntsville, AL 35806. A Meet and Greet is at 6:15 p.m. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and the banquet begins at 7:00 p.m. The banquet is slated to be a fun event as guest are encouraged to dress semi-formal in clothing representing any period between 1937 to 2017. Prizes will be given to best dressed in the following periods. 1937–57, 1957-77, 1977- 97, 1997- 2017. Tickets: $40/adults, $25/Child (12 and under).
